UPDATE: I received another message from Steve, who tells me that they have made some changes. Let’s look for interesting things to post to Oppo and try it out! Test embed below:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
(EDIT: Nope, I guess not. It’s not showing up for me.)
(EDIT 2: Wait, there it is again. Eh, it’s not fixed yet after all.)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
[Original post below:]
Hey all, I’m sure you’ve noticed some links not displaying over the past few weeks. I’m in the middle of a conversation with Steve at Kinja, and in trying to give him some information on what might be triggering it, I can’t seem to get it to act up anymore. Is it fixed?
Just to clarify, I’m referring to embedded links only, the kind that display as a standalone box, often with a preview image. Kinja automatically embeds a link when a web address is entered into the text body. Like so:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I’m not sure if going back into the post editor was giving it the “kick” it needed to display the box, or what, so I played around with a few drafts. Here’s what I found:
First I tried composing a post and then just giving Kinja time to digest it while it sat in the drafts folder. After letting it sit overnight, the link still failed to display, so I tried refreshing the page multiple times. But that didn’t help either.
If I went back in and try to edit the post, the link immediately became visible, and stayed visible after I closed the post editor. Upon refreshing the page, the link was still embedded just like it should be.
But now, when I compose a post, the embed is working perfectly the first time, without a need to go back into the post editor. How about you?
(Of course, you can’t test this in the comments. So I guess this is a good excuse to visit your local Craigslist or news sites for interesting things to post to Oppo.)
A previous version of this post got posted, and I received some replies during an editing session to add more details. Sorry but I had to delete that post. Let’s start over again.

Another interesting bug across all of ex-Gawker is on iOS the top tag (if there are multiple tags) is unclickable. So if I was on my iPhone I couldn’t link to your tag “kinja help” but I could click on the “kinja’d” tag.

Y’know, that’s not limited to iOS. I get that on Win10, too. But it’s such a minor bug that I keep forgetting to report it. Oddly, I can still open the link in a new tab (or window).

The biggest problem I have on a regular basis is the page alignment being messed up like this:
I keep having to refresh to get the normal view so that buttons and links will work like they’re supposed to:

Same on Chrome in Android. If I long-press the tag and choose “Open in New Tab” I can access it, though.

Oh, that’s a weird one. I hadn’t seen that yet. Send them an e-mail with the pertinent information and hopefully the team’ll get on it.

I have the problem with embedded YouTube videos. When I inserted a link in a post the embedded video would show up but from one day to the other it stopped working and just showed a link.

Hm, I can embed YouTube videos whether the address is “https://youtu.be/5nS6fGfXLxI” or “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nS6fGfXLxI” (in fact I had to be very careful to keep those from automatically embedding just now). You should shoot them an e-mail on the topic and don’t forget to include the pertinent device/OS info.

I get that all the time too. It’s roughly 50/50 whether a page will open correctly, or with the ReplyFlagged stuff all hanging out, flopping in the wind.

Yes! So it’s not just me. And it’s only really come in in the last 6 months or so that I can recall. Definitely over the last year.
